Gengar and Mega Greninja Headline October's Halloween TCG Drops

Spooky Season Is Officially on the Calendar

Two new Pokémon TCG products just got dated for Halloween season, and they both land on the same day. A Gengar-led Enhanced 2-Pack Blister and a Mega Greninja Mini Portfolio release on October 2nd, and the whole lineup leans hard into ghosts, disguises, and nightmares. Here is what's inside each one.

The Gengar Enhanced 2-Pack Blister

The blister is built around three cosmos holo promo variants: Gengar, Team Rocket's Mimikyu, and Marshadow. On top of the cards you get two booster packs and a metallic coin, so it works both as a quick rip and as a themed pickup for the promo cards themselves. Cosmos holo promos in these blisters are usually easy to grab at launch and much more annoying to track down a year later, so if the trio speaks to you, day one is the move.

A Trio That Was Made for Halloween

You could not pick a more on-theme lineup if you tried: a grinning ghost, a Mimikyu wearing Team Rocket colors, and Marshadow skulking along at the bottom of the card list. There's also a fun thread connecting this blister to the portfolio releasing the same day: Marshadow and Zeraora were both first revealed during the "I Choose You!" movie trilogy, and now they're anchoring sibling products on the same shelf.

The Mega Greninja Mini Portfolio

The next Mini Portfolio also arrives October 2nd. The front artwork features Mega Greninja and Mega Zeraora, while the back shows Mega Darkrai and Mega Chandelure. It holds 60 cards and comes with one Pitch Black booster pack, which makes it a cheap and cheerful entry point for younger collectors who need somewhere to actually put their pulls.

Why Pitch Black Is the Right Pack for the Job

Pitch Black is the fifth English set of the Mega Evolution era, released on July 17th with Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Zeraora ex as its headliners, and at 120 cards it is the smallest set of the block so far. Tone-wise it could not fit October better. Darkrai is widely seen as a personification of nightmares, drawing on folklore figures like the night mare and the bogeyman, and Chandelure's flames are said to burn a victim's spirit rather than their body. Stuffing a pack of that into a portfolio wrapped in Mega Greninja art is an easy yes for spooky season.
