Mega Darkrai ex Headlines a New Pokémon Set: Abyss Eye in Japan, Pitch Black in English
If you've been waiting for the Mega Evolution era to lean into the dark side, your set is here. The new Mega Darkrai ex set hits Japan first as Abyss Eye, then arrives in English as Pitch Black, with both releases falling this summer.
Abyss Eye: the Japanese release, May 22
Abyss Eye drops in Japan on May 22, 2026. The release includes 81 base cards (closer to 120 with secret rares) and centers around chaos, special conditions, and dark-type pressure.
The standout is Mega Darkrai ex. Its Abyss Eye attack instantly knocks out any Active Pokémon affected by a Special Condition. Pair that with the new Dark Bell item card, which can confuse your opponent's Active turn after turn, and you have a real engine.
The Japanese release also introduces Shadow Darkness Energy, a new energy type that powers many of these cards.
Pitch Black: the English release, July 17
The English release lands July 17, 2026, with prereleases running July 4 through July 12. Pitch Black is the fifth English Mega Evolution release and is a near 1:1 copy of Abyss Eye, with 115+ cards including:
- 6 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex
- 4 Pokémon ex
- 11 illustration rare Pokémon
- 18 ultra rare Pokémon and Trainer cards
- 6 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
Both Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Excadrill ex are confirmed for the English release. The Elite Trainer Box promo will be a new Zarude Illustration Rare.
